choreographic tools

Through our body we can reveal more than words, even without being aware of it. By dancing we choose to use our body as the main tool to communicate, and at the same time, as a means to materialise our imagination. This workshop is divided into two parts. A first, more technical part, where the focus is on expanding the vocabulary of movement and precision, increasing awareness of our body and the use of gravity. We will use different dynamics, suspension, off-weight, spirals, slides, floor work… seeking agility and clarity, limiting unnecessary tension as much as possible. In the second part, we will use improvisation exercises, games and other creative research tools, to create personal sequences, discovering various ways to translate emotions, thoughts, dreams, conversations… into movement. The influence of the space around us and interaction with others will lead us to discover new qualities of movement and the freedom to transform ourselves into anything at any time.

dance meets organic juggling

Cristiana Casadio & Stefan Sing

This workshop is aimed at anyone who is fascinated by movements and objects and interested in merging them to find a personal language.

It was born as a natural consequence of the long research process for the creation of our duet “tangram”. For “tangram” we developed strategies to melt our two disciplines together and we discovered how much one can be influenced by the other. The workshop will explore the intrinsic connection between objects manipulation and body movement, especially how the objects can bring us into dancing and how the dance can modify the image and our approach to the objects.

Starting the day with training sections in contemporary dance and objects manipulation technique, students will develop a movement repertoire both with and without objects. Then, these practices will come together into solo and partnering work focused on developing each student’s natural expressive understanding and how this can enhance the presence of others on stage.
